Großer Winterberg
What a glorious sunny day in lat. autumn! We could not help but started again for a mountain tour in the Saxon Switzerland. This time we chose the mountain Großer Winterberg which we have not climbed yet. This is close to the Czech border and 556 meters high, making it the second highest peak in the Saxon Switzerland.
In the Middle Ages it was called Winterberg due to its relatively large amount of snow in contrast to its surroundings.
On the rather steep climb to the top you pass a viewing platform. This so-called Kipphornaussicht was one of the motives of the famous Romantic painter Casper David Friedrich as it offers spectacular views of the Elbe Valley. And so it was today motive of our photo.
